The Destruction of Satan The Bible reveals that Satan, the great adversary of God and humanity, will ultimately be defeated and destroyed. He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended." The Return of Jesus Christ The return of Jesus Christ is the blessed hope of the Church, promising the fulfillment of God's kingdom on earth. This event will be marked by several key occurrences: 1. The Visible Return Jesus will return visibly and gloriously, in contrast to His first coming in humility. Every eye will see Him, and His return will be accompanied by great power and glory. - Matthew 24:30: "Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory." 2. The Resurrection of the Dead At His return, there will be a resurrection of the dead. Believers who have died will be raised to eternal life, and those who are alive will be transformed. - 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17: "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever." 3. The Final Judgment Jesus will judge the living and the dead, rewarding the righteous and condemning the wicked. This judgment will establish the final order of eternity. - Matthew 25:31-32: "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats." The Hope and Assurance for Believers The destruction of Satan and the return of Jesus Christ offer profound hope and assurance to believers. They affirm that evil will not have the last word and that God's kingdom will ultimately triumph. 1. Eternal Victory Believers are assured of eternal victory through Christ, who has already overcome the world. - John 16:33: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." 2. A New Heaven and a New Earth The return of Christ will usher in a new heaven and a new earth, where God will dwell with His people forever, wiping away every tear and abolishing death and pain. - Revelation 21:1-4: "Then I saw 'a new heaven and a new earth,' for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
