Using the Word of God during Spiritual Warfare

Every Christian should read and meditate on the Word of God daily. All scripture is good for teaching, rebuking, and training in righteousness. But how is the Word of God used during a confrontation with the devil. While most Christians will pick up their Bible and start reading from their favorite spiritual warfare scripture, we must remember that the enemy is also able to quote and twist scripture. If we are to go into hand to hand combat with the enemy we must be versed on the word of God. Otherwise, the enemy will have the advantage over us.

So how should the scriptures be used during a battle with the devil?

Jesus provided a few example on how a Christian should use scripture to fight the enemy.

Luke 4:1-14"1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’” 5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.” 8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’” 9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; 11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ ” 12 Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” 13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. 14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside."

In these examples, you see how both the devil and Jesus were using the scriptures to their advantage. The devil twisted the scriptures to his advantage, but Jesus quoted truth. John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. When you counter the devils lies with the truth of the Bible, the devil has no choice but to obey. Jesus used scriptures that voided the lies of the devil.

Examples:

Example 1:
Devil: You have no power over me!
You: No devil, the scriptures read: Luke 10:19 "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

Example 2:
Devil: You can't cast me out!

You: No devil, I can! The scripture state: Mark 16:17 "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues"

Example 3:
Devil: You will never be free

You: That's not rue devil, the scripture say that; John 8:36 "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

Example 4:
Devil: We will put fear in you!

You:
The scriptures say:

2 Timothy 1:7 "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and love, and of a sound mind."
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

Example 5:
Devil: There is no salvation for you! You are going to hell with me. look at all the evil things you have done!

You: You are wrong devil and this is why:
Romans 8:38-39
"38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Romans 10:9-10
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

The scriptures must be quoted with faith. Simply reading the scriptures do nothing. But if you truly believe what the word of God says about any issues and quote it back to him, the devil doesn't have a chance.

Generational Blessings vs. Generational Curses

Generational curses are real and so are generational blessings: A study of Jonathan Edwards and Max Jukes

Psalm 112:2

1 Praise the Lord.
Blessed are those who fear the Lord,
who find great delight in his commands.
2 Their children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.

Jonathan Edwards, was a Puritan Preacher in the 1700s. He was one of the most respected preachers in his day. He attended Yale at the age of thirteen and later went on to become the president of Princeton college. He married his wife Sara in 1727 and they were blessed with eleven children. Every night when Mr. Edwards was home, he would spend an hour conversing with his family and then praying a blessing over each child. Jonathan and his wife Sarah passed on a great, godly legacy to their eleven children.
An American educator, A.E. Winship decided to trace the descendants of Jonathan Edwards almost 150 years after his death. His findings are remarkable, especially when compared to another man from the same time period known as Max Jukes.
Jonathan Edwards’ legacy includes: 1 U.S. Vice-President, 1 Dean of a law school, 1 dean of a medical school, 3 U.S. Senators, 3 governors, 3 mayors, 13 college presidents, 30 judges, 60 doctors, 65 professors, 75 Military officers, 80 public office holders, 100 lawyers, 100 clergymen, and 285 college graduates.
How may this be explained? Edwards was a godly man, but he was also hard working, intelligent and moral. Furthermore, Winship states, “Much of the capacity and talent, intensity and character of the more than 1,400 of Edwards’ family is due to Mrs. Edwards.”
Max Jukes’ legacy came to people’s attention when the family trees of 42 different men in the New York prison system were traced back to him. He lived in New York at about the same period as Edwards. The Jukes family originally was studied by sociologist Richard L. Dugdale in 1877.
Jukes’ descendants included: 7 murderers, 60 thieves, 190 prostitutes, 150 other convicts, 310 paupers, and 440 who were physically wrecked by addiction to alcohol. Of the 1,200 descendants that were studied, 300 died prematurely.
These contrasting legacies provide an example of what some call the five-generation rule. “How a parent raises their child — the love they give, the values they teach, the emotional environment they offer, the education they provide — influences not only their children but the four generations to follow, either for good or evil.” What a challenging thought! If someone studied your descendants four generations later, what would you want them to discover? Do you want an Edwards’ legacy or a Jukes’ legacy? The life you live will determine the legacy you leave!

Removing Hindrances and Stumbling Blocks

Thank You Lord because only You alone can advance me.
O Lord, bring me into favor with all those who will decide on my advancement.
O Lord, cause a divine substitution to happen if this is what will move me ahead and it is Your will.

Common Open Doors to Demons

Below is a list of common demonic access points. This is not an exhaustive list, but it covers the most common doors.

1) Embracing Sin:

When we justify and embrace sin, we come into agreement with the devil (Ephesians 4:26-27).

2) Traumatic Experiences:

- Being sinned against - especially when we are young - can open a door (e.g. rejection, abuse).
-Other traumatic experiences can open the door (e.g. accidents, divorce, fearful events).

3) Believing the lies of the enemy: When we believe a lie, we come into agreement with the devil who is the "Father of Lies." (see John 8:44)

4) Un-forgiveness:

Unforgiveness fives the devil legal right to torment us (Matthew 18: 21-35),

5) Exposure to unholy things:

Being exposed to unholy things can open a door to the devil (pornography, horror movies, dark music).

6) Involvement in false religion, cults, and false teachings:

Behind every idol is a demon (Corinthians 10:19-20).
False teaching carries with is demonic spirit (2 Corinthians 11:4, 1 Timothy 4:11).

7) Any occult involvement:

Occult: (hidden or secret arts). Contact with the occult is major open door to the demonic and is strictly forbidden in scripture (Deuteronomy 18:9-12).

8) Curses:

Generational Curses (E.g. Alcoholism, abuse, suicide, drugs)
Word Curses and negative word curses (James 3:8-10)
Occult Curses- Curses/spells placed by those in the occult.

9) Ungodly relationships / souls ties:

Spiritual / soulish / fleshly bonds created through ungodly sexual relationships (1 Corinthians 6:16)
Unhealthy relationshipsthat involve control, manipulation, intimidation, or abuse.

What are familiar spirits?
Familiar spirits target generational lines. They know everything about the person they inhabit and their ancestors. They know your emotions and your thinking patterns. They have studied you and your ancestors for hundreds of years. In fact, more than likely, if you have a familiar spirit, you were born with it. They use this information to keep you in bondage.

What do they do?
There is no such thing as a good familiar spirit. The Bible makes it clear that anyone that seeks a familiar is to be cut off. Witches use them for the purpose of profit and other selfish reasons. Although witches believe that they can control these demons, the truth is that these demons usually turn against those people that use them. During exorcisms, these demons will often call witches and conjurers stupid and dumb. They make fun of them. If the witch never repents, they end up in hell, and the demons know it.

How do they get into the bloodlines?
Usually someone conjures them or opens the door to them. Unless they are dealt with, they pass on from one generation to the other. If a family member dies that has a familiar, then that person’ familiar will transfer to another living family member. This is because usually the conditions to use a familiar is to dedicate family lines. The family bloodline must be cleansed.

What happens if I use a familiar spirit?
The Bible makes it clear that using familiar spirits, fortune telling, card reading, speaking to dead people (necromancy) or any form of contacting the dead, defiles a person (Leviticus 19:31) . This makes them spiritually unclean and opens the person up for demonization. If you go to a witch and she tells you that she sees your dead family member and that they have a message for you, its not your family member. It’s a familiar spirit that knows your dead relative inside and out.

What are some familiar spirits?
Usually people that have familiar spirits will see patterns within their family, such as generational depression, anxiety, fear, mental illness or they hear voices.

What do familiars look like?
Familiars can take the shape of animals or humans. They are often realistic in how they look. They don’t look like ghost. Often people would say they have seen dead relatives in their homes, it’s not your relative, it’s a familiar.

I remember my past life. Did I reincarnate?
No! The Bible said that we are appointed to die once and then the judgement (Hebrew 9:27). The memories you have are false memories implanted by a demon. You have a familiar spirit that needs to be dealt with.

What happens if I have a familiar spirit and I don’t do anything about it?

They will destroy you.
They will prevent you from having a personal relationship with God.
They will keep you bound and restricted in all areas of your life.

What can I do to get rid of a familiar spirit?

Get professional help (deliverance minister/exorcist)
Repent (turn away from such practices)
Ask God to forgive you
Say the following prayer:

Speak out and decree audibly:
Familiar spirits get out of me in Jesus’s name. Every mind-biding spirit hindering my God-given destiny, I command you to cease your attacks in Jesus’ name. I command you to release your assignment from my mind and mental thinking. I speak and decree a sound mind, and I am self-disciplined and self-controlled (2 Tim. 1:7), in Jesus’ name.

Are you Cursed? Read to find out!

Are you under a curse? You may be and not even know it.

What is a curse?
A curse is intended to invoke a supernatural power to inflict harm or punishment on someone or something.

How can I be cursed?
1) Generational curses (curses that are in your bloodline). These are often identified by sinful patterns in families.(Exodus 20:5)
2) Habitual Sins (disobedience to God) (2 Timothy 2:26)
3) Witchcraft (some one cast spells or curses against you)
4) Cursed objects in your home (Joshua 7).
5) Dealing with the occult, including checking your horoscope, tarot card reading, and Ouija board (Leviticus 19:31).
6) Word curses (could be from your parents. ie..."You are a good for nothing." (James 3:10).

How can I know if I am under a curse?

1) Analyze your life for patterns? Satan always leaves clues.
2) Did someone tell you they cursed you?
3) Do you see evil patterns in your family line?
4) Are you a child of disobedience? The devil may be using you as puppet according to 2 Timothy 2:26.
5) Have someone cursed you verbally?
6) Did you bring an object into your home and things are now in disarray? We see this with antiques, although they be new items. We have dealt with curse objects based on designs and religious connotation.
7) Are you attracted to the occult? It may be you have witchcraft in your family line. Visiting healers, shamans and Witch Doctors will defile you and open you up for demonization. In fact any form of divination, looking for forbidden knowledge and power.

What can I do to break these curses?

1) Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
2) Make sure you believe the right gospel. We don't go to heaven because we are good. We go to heaven because of what Jesus Christ did for us. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
3) Being a Christian does not except you from being cursed.
4) Curses are not done until you break them. Curses must be broken.
5) Stay in the Word.
6) Demons must be told to leave!

What will happen if I don't break the curses in my life?

We know that the devil has 3 intentions in the life of a believer. He wants to kill, steal and destroy.

Are You Under the Curse of Illegitimacy?

Rt. Rev. Dr. Miguel Bustillos is a well known deliverance minister/exorcist located in the DC area.

Were you or your children born out of wedlock? If so, more than likely you are under the curse of illegitimacy. The Bible tells us that “No one born of a forbidden union may enter the assembly of the Lord. Even to the tenth generation, none of his descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord (Deuteronomy 23:2)."

How do I know if I am under this curse? Often referred as the curse of the bastard.

1) Trouble in worship, prayer, and giving
2) trouble reading the Bible
3) Discomfort in fellowship with believers
4) Constantly questioning of one's salvation

In other words, you will find an inherent, instinctive opposition to life in Church.

What's a Legal Right?

During a deliverance the devil will claim that the person either has sin or iniquities that give them legal rights to be in a person. These must be broken before a person can be totally delivered. A demon that has legal right can be cast out; however it will return immediately into the person with 7 worst than itself because it will claim legal right to be there. Unless the legal right is broken, the demon can claim his right, and God will honor it.

2 Timothy 2:24-26

24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,
25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,
26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

This passage of the Bible clearly illustrates how a demon can have legal right upon a Christian. We know that he is speaking about a Christian, because Paul is instructing Timothy on how to deal with the congregation. In these verses we have the Apostle Paul instructing Timothy on how to deal with those that have opposed themselves to God. He is to treat them with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to to a knowledge of what is true. These people have fallen into error, because they have been deceived by the devil. Their sin is that they opposed God, as a result the devil treats them like puppets. By Timothy treating them with gentleness, they may repent of their opposition against God. And then maybe they will come to their senses and escapes the traps of the devil, after being captured by the devil to do his will.

How do I know If I have Demons?

Millions, if not billions of people, are walking around demonized. I estimate nearly 90% of the world’s population is influenced in some way or another by demons. Some of them are completely demon possessed. When you take into effect that billions of people are worshiping demons as gods, this estimate is not in any way an exaggeration. Most people that are demonized don’t even know it. They know something is just not right with them, but they don’t know what or why they feel that way.

Demonization has different levels. It can be as low as being tempted to as high as being fully possessed. Fully possessed people are usually either unsaved or have willingly given themselves over to the devil. Most of the cases I deal with are people that feel they have been cursed, or have dealt in the occult, or are struggling in some part of their life (wealth, health, family). Usually these cases are easy to resolve with curse breaking and prayer. Higher level cases, for example full-possession or Satanic Ritual Abuse Survivors, are successful only when the Exorcist knows exactly what the root of the problem is and understands the psychological factors involved. When needed, the Exorcist must seek mental health experts. Most importantly a good Exorcist will be in constant communication with the Holy Spirit.

We must understand that there is a solution to the problem of demonization. The name is Jesus Christ! Jesus is the liberator that freed us from all demonic bondage by the cross, burial and resurrection. You should not have to live a tormented life. Jesus has provided a solution through the ministry of Exorcism and Deliverance.

Why do Demons Speak in Tongues?

When performing deliverance the person receiving deliverance will sometimes speak in demonic tongues. When they do, you can assume 100% that these people have somehow opened their 5th Chakra.

New Agers will tell you that to be open and aligned in the fifth chakra is to speak, listen, and express yourself from a higher form of communication.

But the reality is that demons use Chakras as a tunnel system to move around your body and as seen in the case of Chakra #5, as a way to communicate.

Stay away from these occult practices. This world will tell you that opening your Chakras is good for you, but reality shows otherwise.
