 There is a growing spiritual hunger in our generation. People are searching for answers. They are looking for freedom from torment, fear, addiction, oppression, nightmares, generational patterns, spiritual attacks, and inner bondage. Many do not know what to call it, but they know something is wrong. They know they need help.
The tragedy is that many of them are not finding that help in the Church. For too long, deliverance has been ignored, mocked, feared, or pushed to the margins of Christian ministry. In many churches, people are taught about salvation, forgiveness, and worship, but they are never taught how to confront spiritual bondage. They are told to pray harder, attend more services, or simply “move on,” while the deeper spiritual roots of their torment remain untouched. When the Church refuses to address spiritual oppression, people do not stop searching. They simply search somewhere else. That is one of the reasons so many people are turning to the occult. They go to psychics because they want discernment. They go to mediums because they want answers. They turn to tarot cards, witchcraft, crystals, energy healing, astrology, ancestral rituals, and New Age practices because they are desperate for spiritual help. Many are not trying to rebel against God at first. They are trying to understand what is happening to them. The problem is that the occult offers counterfeit solutions to real spiritual problems. Satan is very willing to give people supernatural experiences if it keeps them away from Jesus Christ. The enemy will offer information, feelings, manifestations, and temporary relief, but the end result is always deeper bondage. What begins as curiosity can become spiritual captivity. This is why the Church must recover the ministry of deliverance. Deliverance is not strange. It is biblical. Jesus cast out demons. The apostles cast out demons. The early Church understood that the gospel was not only a message of forgiveness, but also a demonstration of the kingdom of God overcoming the kingdom of darkness. Jesus said: “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils.” Mark 16:17 Deliverance is not about glorifying demons. It is about glorifying Jesus Christ. It is not about fear. It is about freedom. It is not about chasing manifestations. It is about applying the victory of the cross to the lives of hurting people. When the Church avoids deliverance, people are left without biblical answers to spiritual problems. But when the Church embraces deliverance properly, with wisdom, love, Scripture, and the authority of Christ, people find what the occult could never give them: true freedom. The occult offers hidden knowledge. Jesus offers truth. The occult offers temporary power. Jesus gives authority. The occult creates bondage. Jesus breaks chains. The occult opens doors to darkness. Jesus shuts those doors and brings people into the light. The Church must stop being embarrassed by the ministry of Jesus. We cannot preach the Jesus who saves while ignoring the Jesus who delivers. We cannot claim to believe the Bible while neglecting the parts of Scripture that confront demons, curses, oppression, and spiritual warfare. At the same time, deliverance must be handled responsibly. Not everything is a demon. People may also need discipleship, counseling, medical care, inner healing, repentance, forgiveness, and pastoral support. Biblical deliverance does not replace wisdom; it works with wisdom. It does not create fear; it leads people into the peace and lordship of Jesus Christ. The answer to occultism is not silence. The answer is a Church filled with the Holy Spirit, grounded in Scripture, walking in love, and willing to minister freedom to the oppressed. People are looking for answers. The Church must be ready to give them the right ones. We must teach believers how to close spiritual doors. We must teach families how to pray. We must help people renounce occult involvement, break agreement with darkness, and surrender fully to Jesus Christ. We must make room for prayer, repentance, healing, and deliverance in our churches again. The world does not need a powerless Church trying to explain away spiritual realities. The world needs a Church that believes Jesus is still Lord over demons, curses, sickness, fear, trauma, and every work of darkness. Deliverance belongs in the Church because deliverance belongs to Jesus. If we do not give people biblical answers, the occult will gladly give them counterfeit ones. When people witness the power of God setting captives free, their hearts can become open to the gospel. Jesus did not separate deliverance from evangelism. When demons are cast out, people can see that Jesus is not merely a religious figure, but the living Son of God with authority over darkness. Deliverance Opens the Door to the Gospel: Many people today are spiritually bound, tormented, oppressed, addicted, confused, or living under fear. Some have tried counseling, medication, religion, or self-help and still feel trapped. When the power of Jesus Christ brings freedom, it can become a doorway for them to hear the message of salvation. Deliverance ministry should never become entertainment or a show. It should always point people to Jesus Christ. The goal is not to exalt the minister, but to reveal the Savior. A person may come seeking freedom from torment, but through deliverance they can encounter the love, mercy, and authority of Christ. After deliverance, they must be taught repentance, salvation, discipleship, prayer, Scripture, and how to live submitted to God. Biblical Example: The Man from Gadara: One powerful example is found in Mark 5:1–20. Jesus encountered a man possessed by many demons. This man lived among the tombs, cried out, cut himself, and could not be restrained. His life was completely controlled by demonic torment. When Jesus commanded the demons to come out, the man was delivered. Afterward, the Bible says he was found: “sitting and clothed and in his right mind.” — Mark 5:15 This deliverance became a testimony. The man wanted to follow Jesus physically, but Jesus told him: “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” — Mark 5:19 This is evangelism through deliverance. The man’s freedom became his message. Jesus sent him back to his community as a living witness of God’s power and compassion. Philip’s Deliverance Ministry Led Many People to Believe: Another powerful biblical example of deliverance being used for evangelism is the ministry of Philip in Samaria. Philip did not only preach with words; his preaching was accompanied by the power of God. As he proclaimed Christ, demons were cast out, people were healed, and many believed the gospel. The Bible says: “Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. And there was great joy in that city.” — Acts 8:5–8 This passage shows that deliverance ministry was directly connected to evangelism. Philip preached Christ, and the people paid attention because they heard the message and saw the power of God. The casting out of unclean spirits confirmed that the gospel Philip preached was true. The result was that many people believed and were baptized: “But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.” — Acts 8:12 This is one of the clearest biblical examples of deliverance ministry opening the door for evangelism. Philip preached Jesus, demons came out, people were healed, and many believed. The power of God brought attention to the message of Christ, and the result was salvation, baptism, and great joy in the city. Deliverance ministry should still function this way today. It should not be used to glorify the minister, create fear, or entertain people. It should be used to point people to Jesus Christ. When people witness the authority of Christ over demons, their hearts can become open to the gospel. Philip’s ministry reminds us that deliverance is not separate from evangelism. It is one of the ways the Kingdom of God is demonstrated. The message is preached, the captives are set free, and people are invited to believe in Jesus Christ. Deliverance Must Lead to Discipleship: Deliverance should not end when the demon leaves. It must lead the person into a relationship with Jesus Christ. If a person is delivered but not discipled, they may remain spiritually vulnerable. Jesus warned that when an unclean spirit leaves a person, it seeks to return if the person’s life remains empty and unguarded. “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’” — Matthew 12:43–44 This is why evangelism and discipleship must work together with deliverance ministry. A person must not only be set free; they must be filled with the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, and a life of obedience to Jesus Christ. After deliverance, people should be encouraged to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, repent from sin, renounce occult practices, read the Bible daily, pray, worship, join a Bible-believing church, receive teaching on spiritual warfare, and walk in holiness. Deliverance Reveals the Compassion of Jesus: Deliverance ministry is not about judging people. It is about showing the compassion of Christ to those in bondage. Jesus was moved with compassion for the broken, the oppressed, and the rejected. Many people who need deliverance feel ashamed, misunderstood, or hopeless. When the Church ministers deliverance with love, humility, and biblical authority, people can experience the heart of Jesus. The gospel is not only preached in words; it is also demonstrated through the power of God. Jesus said: “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues.” — Mark 16:17 This does not mean deliverance replaces the preaching of the gospel. Rather, deliverance confirms the authority of Jesus Christ and helps people see that His power is greater than the power of darkness. Deliverance ministry can be a powerful tool for evangelism when it is done biblically, humbly, and with the purpose of leading people to Jesus Christ. The casting out of demons demonstrates that Jesus has authority over Satan, sin, and darkness. Like the man from Gadara, those who are set free can become living testimonies. Their lives can declare to others, “Look what the Lord has done for me.” Like Philip in Samaria, the Church must preach Christ and allow the power of God to confirm the message. When demons are cast out, the sick are healed, and captives are set free, people can see that the Kingdom of God is real. Deliverance ministry should always point people to the cross, the resurrection, salvation, and a life of discipleship. While God can set a person free instantly, deliverance is often a process. Some people have carried wounds, trauma, generational patterns, unforgiveness, fear, rejection, or occult doors for many years. Because of this, the Holy Spirit may lead the person through layers of healing before full freedom is experienced.
Jesus said, “The truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Deliverance is not only about commanding demons to leave; it is also about uncovering the truth, renouncing lies, closing legal rights, and allowing Jesus to heal the broken places of the heart. Inner healing is important because demons often attach themselves to wounds. A person may have been abused, rejected, betrayed, abandoned, or deeply hurt. If that pain remains unhealed, the enemy may continue to use it as a doorway. Before deliverance can be fully effective, the person may need to forgive, repent, renounce agreements with the enemy, and invite Jesus into the places of pain. Psalm 147:3 says, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” This shows us that God cares not only about casting out evil spirits, but also about healing the heart. Deliverance without inner healing can sometimes bring temporary relief, but if the root wounds remain, the same struggles may return. Inner healing deals with the root; deliverance removes the demonic oppression connected to it. This is why patience is important. Freedom may come step by step. Each session may uncover deeper issues, strongerholds, or hidden legal rights. The goal is not just to get demons out, but to help the person walk in lasting freedom, spiritual maturity, and wholeness in Christ. True deliverance is not rushed. But according to Scripture, no curse has greater power than Jesus Christ. A curse only has power where there is legal ground, agreement, sin, fear, or an open door that allows it to operate. When a believer understands their authority in Christ, repents where needed, renounces every ungodly agreement, and walks in obedience to God, curses can be broken and made ineffective. The Bible says: “Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest.” — Proverbs 26:2 This means that a curse without a rightful place cannot remain. It may be spoken, sent, or intended, but if there is no legal ground for it to land, it cannot successfully operate against a child of God who is walking under the covering of Jesus Christ. What Is a Curse? A curse is a spiritual declaration, judgment, or assignment intended to bring harm, bondage, destruction, sickness, confusion, poverty, delay, or oppression into a person’s life. Curses can come through words, sin, occult practices, generational iniquity, witchcraft, vows, objects, trauma, or ungodly covenants. In Deuteronomy 28, the Bible describes blessings that come through obedience and curses that come through rebellion against God. This shows us that curses are not merely superstition. They are connected to spiritual law. When people walk outside of God’s will, they can open doors to destruction. However, the good news is this: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” — Galatians 3:13 Jesus did not only forgive our sins. He also redeemed us from the curse. Through His blood, death, and resurrection, every curse can be broken. How Curses Work Curses often work through legal rights. A legal right is a spiritual opening that gives the enemy permission to operate in a person’s life. Demons do not have unlimited authority. They look for access points. When they find agreement, sin, trauma, unforgiveness, occult involvement, or generational iniquity, they attempt to use those things as grounds to torment, oppress, or hinder. Here are some common ways curses can operate: 1. Through Spoken Words Words carry spiritual weight. The Bible says: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” — Proverbs 18:21 Parents, leaders, spouses, enemies, witches, or even the person themselves may speak words that open doors. Statements like “You will never succeed,” “You are cursed,” “You will always be sick,” or “No one in this family ever prospers” can become spiritual agreements when believed or received. Not every negative word becomes a curse, but words spoken with authority, hatred, bitterness, or occult power can become assignments against a person’s life. 2. Through Sin and Disobedience Sin opens doors. When people live in rebellion against God, they give the enemy access. Deuteronomy 28 shows that disobedience can bring consequences. This does not mean every hardship is caused by a curse, but persistent sin can create spiritual vulnerability. Examples include sexual immorality, idolatry, bitterness, violence, dishonesty, addiction, and rebellion against God’s Word. 3. Through Generational Iniquity Some curses appear to pass through family lines. Patterns such as repeated divorce, addiction, poverty, witchcraft, premature death, mental torment, violence, or sexual perversion may appear from generation to generation. Exodus 20:5 speaks of iniquity affecting generations, but Ezekiel 18 also shows that a person can turn from the sins of their fathers and live. Through Christ, generational curses can be broken. You are not doomed to repeat what your family carried. 4. Through Occult Practices The occult is one of the clearest ways curses gain access. Witchcraft, Santeria, voodoo, tarot cards, astrology, psychics, crystals used for spiritual power, spells, rituals, blood covenants, séances, necromancy, and consulting mediums are forbidden by God. Deuteronomy 18:10–12 warns against these practices because they open doors to demonic spirits. Even if someone entered these things ignorantly, the spiritual consequences may still need to be renounced and broken. 5. Through Ungodly Covenants and Vows A covenant is an agreement. Some people enter ungodly covenants through secret societies, false religions, witchcraft rituals, sexual sin, blood pacts, dedications, or vows. Even words like “I will never trust anyone again,” “I will never forgive,” or “I belong to this spirit” can create bondage. These agreements must be renounced in the name of Jesus. 6. Through Objects and Dedications Certain objects can carry spiritual attachments, especially if they were used in witchcraft, idolatry, false worship, or occult rituals. In Acts 19:19, those who practiced magic burned their occult books after coming to Christ. Objects do not have more power than God, but if something is dedicated to demons or false gods, it should be removed and destroyed. 7. Through Fear and Agreement Fear gives power to the enemy’s threats. A curse becomes more effective when a person believes it, fears it, and agrees with it. The enemy often uses intimidation. He wants the believer to say, “This curse is stronger than me.” But the Word says: “Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” — 1 John 4:4 A believer must stop agreeing with the curse and start agreeing with the Word of God. How to Make Curses Ineffective The goal is not merely to “break a curse” with words. The goal is to remove every legal right, come under the authority of Jesus Christ, and walk in obedience to God. 1. Be Truly Submitted to Jesus Christ Deliverance begins with surrender. Jesus must be Lord, not just a religious name we use in prayer. A person cannot reject God, live in rebellion, worship other gods, practice witchcraft, and then expect spiritual protection. James 4:7 says: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Notice the order: submit to God first, then resist the devil. 2. Repent of Sin Repentance removes legal ground. Confess known sin to God. Turn away from it. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal anything that has opened the door. This may include sexual sin, unforgiveness, occult involvement, pride, rebellion, hatred, idolatry, or bitterness. Prayer: “Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I repent for every sin that has opened the door to curses, bondage, or demonic oppression. I turn away from all rebellion and submit myself fully to You.” 3. Renounce Every Curse and Agreement Renouncing means verbally rejecting and canceling your agreement with something. Many people need to renounce curses spoken over them, curses they spoke over themselves, family curses, witchcraft curses, occult covenants, and ungodly vows. Prayer: “In the name of Jesus Christ, I renounce every curse spoken over my life, every curse I have spoken over myself, every generational curse, every witchcraft curse, every word curse, every vow, every oath, every covenant, and every agreement that is not from God. I break agreement with it now in Jesus’ name.” 4. Break Generational Curses You can stand in Christ and break agreement with the sins and iniquities of your bloodline. Prayer: “In the name of Jesus Christ, I repent for the sins, iniquities, and transgressions in my family line. I renounce every generational curse of witchcraft, idolatry, poverty, sickness, addiction, divorce, premature death, mental torment, rebellion, and destruction. By the blood of Jesus, I break these curses off my life and my descendants.” 5. Destroy Occult Objects If you have occult items, false religious objects, spell books, charms, cursed jewelry, ritual items, or objects dedicated to demons, remove them from your home. Do not keep what God has told you to destroy. Some people want deliverance while still holding on to the very objects that opened the door. 6. Forgive Those Who Cursed You Unforgiveness can keep a curse active because it gives the enemy legal ground. Jesus commanded us to forgive. Forgiveness does not mean what happened was acceptable. It means you release the person to God and refuse to remain spiritually tied to them through bitterness. Prayer: “Lord Jesus, I choose to forgive every person who cursed me, wounded me, betrayed me, abused me, rejected me, or spoke evil over my life. I release them to You. I cancel every ungodly soul tie and every spiritual connection formed through pain, hatred, or bitterness.” 7. Apply the Blood of Jesus The blood of Jesus is greater than every curse. Revelation 12:11 says believers overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. Prayer: “I apply the blood of Jesus Christ over my life, my body, my mind, my family, my home, my finances, my ministry, and my destiny. Every curse must bow to the finished work of the cross.” 8. Command Demonic Spirits to Leave After repentance and renunciation, command every spirit enforcing the curse to leave. Prayer: “In the name of Jesus Christ, I command every demon assigned to enforce curses against my life to leave me now. Every spirit of witchcraft, infirmity, poverty, delay, rejection, fear, torment, death, destruction, and bondage, go now in Jesus’ name. I cancel your assignment by the authority of Jesus Christ.” 9. Speak Blessings Over Your Life Do not only break curses. Replace them with blessing. Speak the Word of God over your life. Declare: “I am blessed in Christ. I am redeemed from the curse. No weapon formed against me shall prosper. Every tongue that rises against me in judgment is condemned. I belong to Jesus Christ. My family belongs to Jesus Christ. My future belongs to Jesus Christ. The blessing of the Lord is upon my life.” 10. Walk in Obedience A curse becomes ineffective when the enemy loses legal ground. After deliverance, the person must walk with God. They should pray, read the Bible, attend a Bible-believing church, live in holiness, forgive quickly, and stay away from occult practices. Jesus warned in Matthew 12:43–45 that when an unclean spirit leaves, it seeks to return. The house must not remain empty. It must be filled with the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, worship, prayer, and obedience. Why Some Curses Do Not Break Immediately Sometimes people pray against curses but continue giving the enemy access. They may still be involved in sin, unforgiveness, occult practices, ungodly relationships, or false worship. Others may need deeper deliverance because the curse is connected to trauma, vows, soul ties, or generational spirits. Deliverance can be instant, but it can also be a process. The key is persistence, repentance, and submission to Jesus Christ. Curses are real, but they are not greater than Jesus. Witchcraft is real, but it is not greater than the blood of Jesus. Generational patterns are real, but they are not greater than the cross. The enemy may try to use curses to create fear, bondage, and destruction, but Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” — 1 John 3:8 If you are in Christ, you do not have to live under fear. You can repent, renounce, break agreement, command the enemy to leave, and walk in the blessing and authority of Jesus Christ. A curse becomes ineffective when it loses its legal right, loses your agreement, and comes under the authority of the name and blood of Jesus Christ. Could leprechauns actually represent demonic entities disguised as folklore? The Origin of Leprechauns: Not Just Harmless Myth Leprechauns originate from ancient Irish folklore, deeply rooted in Celtic spirituality. These traditions were not neutral—they were heavily influenced by paganism, nature worship, and interactions with what were believed to be “fairy” beings or “little people.” Scripture warns us clearly: “They sacrificed unto devils, not to God…” — Deuteronomy 32:17 Many ancient cultures did not realize they were interacting with demons. What they called “fairies,” “spirits,” or “nature beings” were, in reality, manifestations of demonic spirits. Characteristics of Leprechauns and Demonic Parallels When we examine the traits of leprechauns, striking similarities emerge with how demons operate: 1. Deception and Trickery Leprechauns are known for misleading humans, hiding truth, and playing tricks. “For Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” — 2 Corinthians 11:14 Demonic spirits often present themselves in appealing or harmless forms to deceive. 2. Guardians of Hidden Wealth Leprechauns are said to guard pots of gold, promising riches to those who capture them. This aligns with demonic temptation: “For the love of money is the root of all evil…” — 1 Timothy 6:10 Demons frequently lure individuals through greed and materialism. 3. Small, Mysterious, Invisible Beings Descriptions of leprechauns resemble spiritual entities that move unseen. The Bible confirms the existence of unseen beings: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against… spiritual wickedness in high places.” — Ephesians 6:12 4. Association with Magic and Enchantment Leprechauns are tied to magic, illusion, and supernatural manipulation. Scripture strictly forbids these practices: “There shall not be found among you anyone… that useth divination…” — Deuteronomy 18:10 The Danger of Normalizing the Occult Many people celebrate symbols like leprechauns during cultural holidays without realizing their spiritual implications. While it may seem harmless, repeated exposure to occult symbols can desensitize individuals—especially children—to spiritual darkness. “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:22 The enemy often works subtly. What begins as entertainment can open doors to deeper spiritual curiosity and eventually bondage. Demonic Spirits Masquerading Through Culture Throughout history, demons have adapted their appearance to match cultural expectations. In some regions, they appear as ancestral spirits; in others, as mythical creatures. The strategy is always the same: Deceive, distract, and distance people from the truth of God. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…” — John 10:10 Leprechauns may simply be another mask—an acceptable, even celebrated disguise. What Should Christians Do?As believers, we are called to walk in discernment and truth. ✔ Test Everything Spiritually “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits…” — 1 John 4:1 ✔ Reject Occult Associations Even if culturally popular, anything rooted in pagan or occult practices should be avoided. ✔ Teach the Next Generation Children must be taught the difference between fantasy and spiritual reality. ✔ Stay Grounded in Scripture The Word of God is our ultimate authority—not culture, tradition, or entertainment. While the world may dismiss leprechauns as harmless fun, spiritual discernment reveals a deeper reality. The movie Agnes attempts to deal with themes such as demonic possession, spiritual darkness, religious life, and emotional suffering. Because these are serious matters, Christians should examine them carefully through the lens of Scripture rather than through Hollywood’s imagination. From a biblical point of view, Agnes is a troubling and disappointing film because it handles spiritual warfare in a confused, shallow, and often irreverent way. The Bible makes it clear that demons are real. Jesus cast out demons, gave His disciples authority over unclean spirits, and demonstrated that the kingdom of God has power over the kingdom of darkness. Scripture says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). Spiritual warfare is not fiction, entertainment, or symbolism. It is real. This is one of the major problems with Agnes. The film does not seem to know whether it wants to treat demonic activity as real, psychological, symbolic, or something to be mocked. Instead of presenting the spiritual realm with seriousness and discernment, it mixes darkness, confusion, and human brokenness in a way that clouds truth rather than revealing it. The Bible teaches that “God is not the author of confusion” (1 Corinthians 14:33). When a film takes a serious spiritual issue and leaves viewers with more confusion than clarity, it misses the mark. Another concern from a biblical perspective is that the movie does not point to the power and authority of God in a clear way. In Scripture, whenever darkness is confronted, the authority of God is central. Jesus did not negotiate with demons or treat them as a mystery to be admired. He rebuked them and cast them out. In Mark 1:27, the people were amazed and said, “For with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.” A biblical portrayal of spiritual warfare should ultimately point to the victory, holiness, and supremacy of God. Agnes does not do this well. The film also reflects a broader problem common in modern entertainment: it uses spiritual themes without biblical truth. It borrows the language of possession, religion, suffering, and evil, but it does not offer true spiritual discernment. This is dangerous because many viewers do not know the difference between a scriptural understanding of demonic oppression and a secular reimagining of it. The Bible warns us to “try the spirits whether they are of God” (1 John 4:1). Christians should not passively absorb every spiritual message presented in film. We are called to test everything by the Word of God. From a biblical standpoint, another weakness of Agnes is its lack of reverence. Spiritual bondage is not amusing. Demonic torment is not a clever artistic concept. People in real life suffer under oppression, torment, deception, and bondage, and they need the ministry of truth, prayer, repentance, and the power of Jesus Christ. Scripture shows compassion toward the afflicted and judgment toward the kingdom of darkness. A film that treats these matters lightly or ambiguously risks dulling spiritual sensitivity. The movie also fails to present the true answer to darkness. The Bible does not leave people hopeless in the face of evil. It points to Jesus Christ as Deliverer. Acts 10:38 says that Jesus “went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil.” That is the biblical answer: freedom through Christ, not confusion through artistic speculation. When entertainment highlights darkness but offers no real light, it leaves people spiritually empty. Christians must be careful with movies like Agnes because repeated exposure to distorted portrayals of spiritual warfare can shape how people think about demons, deliverance, and the authority of the Church. The enemy thrives in deception. Satan wants people either to deny his existence, misunderstand his tactics, or become fascinated with darkness apart from truth. The Bible, however, calls believers to sobriety, vigilance, and faith. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). In the end, Agnes falls short biblically because it does not treat spiritual warfare with scriptural seriousness, it does not clearly honor the authority of Christ over demons, and it does not lead viewers toward truth. Instead, it presents a clouded and unstable picture of darkness. For Christians, that is not enough. As believers, we should remember that the truth about demons, oppression, and deliverance is not found in Hollywood. It is found in the Word of God. The Bible gives us clarity where movies give confusion, authority where films give fear, and hope where entertainment often leaves despair. If a movie about possession does not point us toward Christ, truth, holiness, and discernment, then it ultimately fails the biblical test. Darkness Recoiling at Light When the forces of spiritual darkness are exposed, there is natural resistance. The gospel light awakens opposition (Acts 26:18). In Isaiah 60, the Lord promises that nations will come to His light—but darkness does not give way quietly. The current conflict could be seen as resistance to God’s purposes for Middle Eastern transformation. It is not that political players are unaware of God. But from a biblical perspective, it also reflects a deeper spiritual battle in the heavenly realms—with Persia’s spiritual identity being confronted by the kingdom of God. Rather than seeing only brutality and politics, Christians can view this moment as a call to prayer, spiritual clarity, and divine purpose—believing that no physical conflict can ultimately thwart God’s eternal plan.
