A Biblical Critique of the Movie Agnes

Agnes does not do this well.

When entertainment highlights darkness but offers no real light, it leaves people spiritually empty.

Christians must be careful with movies like Agnes because repeated exposure to distorted portrayals of spiritual warfare can shape how people think about demons, deliverance, and the authority of the Church. The enemy thrives in deception. Satan wants people either to deny his existence, misunderstand his tactics, or become fascinated with darkness apart from truth. The Bible, however, calls believers to sobriety, vigilance, and faith. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

In the end, Agnes falls short biblically because it does not treat spiritual warfare with scriptural seriousness, it does not clearly honor the authority of Christ over demons, and it does not lead viewers toward truth.
